Recording Intensive Interaction and Rapport-Based Communication

This online session will explain how to reflect on and record Intensive Interaction and Rapport-based Communication sessions in the context of SEND education and also care.  The course is suitable for teachers, teaching assistants, support workers, and managers and will cover a number of approaches to recording, each of which is suitable for certain situations.  

Course content will include:

  • Principles and use of the Rapport scale

  • Quick classroom wall charts for easy recording

  • Group and individual recording methods

  • Method for calibrating understanding of levels for team practice

  • How to take baselines

Matthew Laurie has worked in care and education settings for people with additional and complex needs for over twenty years. He works in special schools on a weekly basis embedding person centred approaches to communication and music and teaches regular training days both online and in person. Matthew is a consultant trainer for leading special needs consultants Concept Training and Hirstwood Training and specialises in working long term with care settings to develop communities of practice around person centred care.
